Photographs
On my travels, I tend to take (too) many photographs, and this blog is a place where I'd like to share some of them. These large images (often 735px wide) are grouped under geographical location, usually cities. To see the photographs, please click on the image, and photographs will appear with the most recent at the top. As will become apparent, most of the images are views and snaps taken in European cities. Please do not expect any artistry: I just point and shoot, and the camera does all the work.
Metropoleis
Photographs of London and New York City. Both these cities are large and hugely exciting places. There are more photographs of London, because that's where I spend most of my time.
Keukenhof
Keukenhof is a famours garden in the Netherlands, especially for the huge varieties of tulips.
Barcelona
Barcelona is a vibrant but historic city in Spain. It is a wonderful place to admire the buildings designed by Gaudí.
Photographs of Germany
Berlin is a city I like to visit and revisit. There's something indeterminable and contradictory about the place. There's always something new, and there is always a struggle about its identity. Berlin is never fixed in its position in Germany and the world, politically, historically and psychologically. It makes for an interesting place.
Trier is a city in the western part of Germany, with a very long history. It is most famous for the Roman ruins, many of which are in very good condition, but there are architectural gems from other periods as well. It's the birth city of Karl Marx.
Bernkastel-Kues is a town on the Mosel, a wine-growing region. It has a well-preserved town centre.
Under the label Others, there are photographs of: Marburg, a university town; Burg Eltz, a mediaeval castle; Dresden; and a few other odd photographs. I have a few other photographs of Germany, accumulated over the past decade, and I will need to sit down, scan and edit them at some point soon.
Photographs of Belgian towns
Belgium may not be the most famous tourist destination in Europe, however, the country boasts many well-preserved or painstakingly restored historic towns, especially in Flanders. Below you will find photographs of Brussels, Brugge (Bruges), Ghent, Antwerp, Leuven and Ieper (Ypres). While these cities and towns may not be able to match the glamour and excitement of London, Paris or Amsterdam (all within 2 hours by train from Brussels), they nevertheless are worth visiting, especially if you're interested in history, art and architecture.
