Belgians and social networking sites

24 March 2010

Like many other cities, Brussels has a free morning newspapers called metro. Unlike many other cities, there are two editions circulating in Brussels: one in French and another in Dutch. There was an interesting article in the French version of the paper about the use of social networking sites in Belgium. According to the article, around 4 million Belgians regularly visit social networking sites. On average, they check their accounts twice a day, and Facebook is the most popular site (57% of the Belgian internet users), followed by MySpace (20%) and Twitter (17%). On average, a Belgian person online has 133 friends, somewhat fewer than the international average of 195. The Facebook take-over of the world is progressing smoothly.
