Guardian: Geocities: no longer under construction
So many years ago when I started to dabble in the weird world of the web, Netscape was the commonest browser, and GeoCities was the first programme I used to build my web pages. GeoCities was a good place to start, but after a while I found it too restrictive, and that led me to learn how to code HTML in hand.
Like Netscape a number of years ago, GeoCities is now gone. Yahoo! has pulled the plug on GeoCities. Even though I haven’t had anything to do with GeoCities for a long time, it feels strange something that was so widespread can disappear in a short period of time.
Internet seems to have quickened the passage of time.
