Mr Lebedev buys the Independent

4 March 2010

I used to read the Independent quite regularly, before the internet age when I bought hard copies of newspapers. It had interesting articles, with which I sometimes agreed, and quite often disagreed. Apparently this paper is now going to be owned by Mr Lebedev, a former KGB officer, who has already purchased London Evening Standard. The Standard became free, and actually I think it’s better than it had been before. Perhaps Mr Lebedev can do something interesting with the paper, but the title Independent may be seen as a misnormer in the future.
