Iranian election Renewed hope for peace?

12 June 2009

Iranians are electing a new president. It may be that, despite the current of public opinion, Mr Ahmadinejad emerges victorious. However, according to reports, it seems more likely that Mr Mousavi will top the polls, and the results of today’s vote will probably lead to a run-off.

With the Lebanese electorate opting for a western-backed coalition, and depending on the eventual winner of the presidential election in Iran, there may be a better environment for peace in the middle east. Whoever becomes the next president of Iran, the rest of the world will have to engage in a dialogue with him.
