The Battle of White Mountain (Bílá Hora) took place near Prague in 1620 at the beginning of the Thirty Years’ War. The Bohemians who had elected Elector Palatine Frederick V as Frederick I of Bohemia were defeated by the Catholic forces of Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand II and the Catholic League. Frederick had to flee Bohemia following the result of the battle and is known as the Winter King for his short reign.
