This building dating from 1901 with a striking exterior was designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch, an architect of the modernisme period, who drew inspiration from the traditional Catalan designs of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Puig i Cadafalch also designed other buildings in the city such as Casa de les Punxes.
