Getting up shortly after 4 a.m., I walked to take a 14 bus which runs 24 hours a day, changed to the first District line train towards the City at South Kensington, and alighted at Westminster to join the throng of people heading towards Whitehall. Walking towards Trafalgar Square, I managed to secure a place behind people who had been waiting since 9 p.m. the previous night. The weather was not great, as it rained persistently and at times quite strongly.
There were two processions: the King’s Procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey, and the Coronation Procession from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace. Fortunately I had a decent view of the processions. Despite a good view, I did not manage to take good pictures, but I hope the images convey what it was like to be a member of the multitude lining up Whitehall.
